Juan RuizBachata Moderna vol 1 & 2Level: Beg Style: Bachata Content: Basic elements, footwork and turn patterns. General Comment: In this DVD series Juan Ruiz proposes a new Bachata style, which he calls Bachata Moderna. While traditional Bachata is danced mostly on the spot with small sideways movements, his style allows the couple to move around the floor, both sideways and forward and backward, an option which naturally adds variation and flexibility to the turn patterns. This DVD includes both Volume 1 and 2. The first introduces the fundamentals of Bachata: basic steps, how to hold the partner and a few basic footwork variations. Each individual component is first demonstrated in the male part, then in the lady's part and then demonstrated with and without music. Here instruction on leading and following is also provided since in this Bachata style, even at this early stage, the leader has to be very clear in indicating what type of basic step the lady needs to be executing and in what direction the couple needs to move. Once this is under control, the second volume shows 8 turn patterns which employ these fundamentals. A good product for beginner or early intermediate dancers. All are based on the Bachata Moderna concept of moving freely over the floor. The DVD begins by covering a few more fundamental steps, mostly variations on what has been learnt already in the previous volumes. All moves are broken down for the male and female part independently and then demonstrated to music. A useful DVD for intermediate dancers wishing to widen their repertoire.
