Categories explained
Artist: if more than 2 artists are included in the CD, we list them as 'Various'. CD Title: pay attention that some artists have the curious habit of releasing the same CD under different names. Style: this is the crucial difference between our site and other salsa music review sites. Our reviews are for dancers and consequently we use a classification suitable for dancers. For example, a song which would normally be danced as 'Cha Cha Cha' we call it so, even if musically, it might be a son montuno; also we make a distinction between salsa, timba, son, classic mambo and NY style mambo, since that may influence what style of salsa you dance to that song. Our Rank: we rank each song from 1 star (=not our taste) to 5 stars (=we like it a lot!!!). Obviously, most tracks will have 3 stars, which is equivalent to 'we quite like it'. Review: a link to an extended review of the CD. This review may have been written by us, if it is in our site, or may be a link to another site. Suitable for Beginners / Suitable for: We have experience with using some of this music for teaching. So, we give a rough judgement on whether this music is suitable to beginner dancers (it is fairly slow and with a very clear beat), for intermediate dancers (the beat is less obvious, but still easy to follow) or for advanced dancers (complex rhythm); Buy from: these are suggestions for where you can buy the CDs. They are just suggestions to help you, we do not get any commission from this. Occasionally we may have a CD to buy second hand.
